Mostly played SFIV and went to random parties. Met Henrik Vibskov and his CFO and they are some cool people. They're looking for a New York location so if you know a good spot send them an email. Went to the dubstep rave(? might actually have been a concert) and the music was great but damn was the crowd stupid.

I just want to update on Super Street Fighter IV rumors. A certain "man of 1000 NDAs" has been on #capcom telling people that the character lists on iplaywinner and capcom-unity are correct. In addition, the whole "2 ultra" madness is true. I can't say it's surprising, since Alpha 3 gave everyone multiple supers in A-ism (Z-ism in Japan) mode. What I'm really interested in is this supposedly new character, Hakan. Apparently he is an arab grappler, modeled after the Iron Sheik, who is obsessed with oil. I hope he yells "Allah Akbar!" when he is doing a super, like 'Gief. Even more than that, I hope he does the cossack dance with the ayatollah in his ending. Maybe he can swim in or drink oil or something like the cartoons.

Well let's see if it's true or he's yanking our chains.westerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12062275864152460421noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476681607823366429.post-11245591333226943642009-09-10T06:20:00.000-07:002009-09-10T06:21:41.002-07:00Fashin WeekIt's that time of the year. It's a recipe for a dope video. Just stand in front of the Unisphere, put the camera below you (for that heroic steez), and let it roll. Alternatively, gather your posse to stand in front and posture. I think the phenomenon is related to standing really close to a wide angle lens (cf. Busta Rhymes - Gimme Some More), dancing in a room that gets smaller toward the back (cf. Redman - I'll Bee Dat), having your posse stand in a white room (cf. Limp Bizkit ft. Method Man, Flava in Ya Ear Remix), and having P. Diddy's kid dance in your video.

Just a quick list off the top:

MOP - World Famous
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0GXWBCmH5Q

Craig Mack - Flava in Ya Ear
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-MLp3l2fkA

Coolio - Keenan and Kel theme song (I don't actually know if this is the Unisphere or some shitty Universal Studios reproduction)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39Tds8nMkks

Biggie ft. Last Bronx is a 3-button (VF2 style) 2.5d fighter from the last days of the Sega Saturn, but you could easily find that out from reading Wikipedia. I'm going to try to make this post about shit that you can't find on Wikipedia. This game was supposed to be the fastest 3d fighter on Saturn, and it accomplished that. Unfortunately, VF3 came out in arcades soon after its release and not many people cared about Last Bronx after that. When I say it's the fastest, I mean that it runs at 60 frames per second. Because of this, the graphics aren't as fancy and cool as the VF-series. Other than the whole sitting in VF's shadow, LB came out very near to the end of Saturn's reign (late meaning 1997, not Final Fight Revenge-type late) and suffered from the loss in popularity. Not only was it untimely, but there is also nothing really innovative, special, or fun about this game. The two best things are the plot and logo.

Right from. the .hlp file:

TOKYO — The Last Bronx
Tokyo was riding high on the tsunami of global economic supremacy when the Bubble broke in ‘91. Then things fell apart. Hundred billion yen building complexes were left half-finished, and salarymen started having instant ramen for lunch as the slush-money supplies dried up. And slowly, the hidden Japan began to emerge, crawling in from the shadows on the outskirts of town. Biker gangs and Chinese mafia; loansharks and slave-traders; Doomsday cults, madmen and thieves.

Those were the days of the first All-Tokyo StreetWar — where young gangs met and clashed and slid into ruin down streets slick with their own blood. Then a single crew of unstoppable riders appeared to put an end to the violence and bloodshed. Through fair-handed dealings and iron-fisted fighting skills, the Soul Crew gang blazed a path for the future of Tokyo’s young...

.... until, under circumstances still riddled with doubt and accusations, the leader of the Soul Crew was viciously killed. The tenuous balance of power was thrown out of whack, and every street tribe with pride, dreams or ambition felt the shockwave of his fall like a call to arms. The Second StreetWar was ignited.

At the height of the fighting, an ominously worded challenge to the leaders of the toughest gangs appeared in graffiti scrawls all over town:

Fellow Citizens:

We all grow weary of this bitter strife. And so now I call on each of you in the name of peace. You all know how useless and regrettable these recent squabbles are, and how wasteful of the blood of the young. I have a modest proposal to remedy this unfortunate situation: I call for a fighting tournament, solely between the chosen leaders of each worthy gang — a decisive battle that will spare the lives of the young while settling the thorny question of which group has the power needed to rule Tokyo. Of course the fights will be held in secrecy, and the results will not be made public. This is a fight for honor, not fame.

A final word: I regret that under no circumstances can a refusal to participate be accepted. In the event that any of you do not attend, I will make arrangements to have flowers sent to the funeral. I look forward to meeting each of you at the appointed hour.

Several of the recipients of this very peculiar challenge shrugged it off as a practical joke or thought it was a trap set by a rival gang. But when members of their crews were found face-down in Tokyo Bay, the truth of its warning became very clear.

There will be no RSVPs to the Last Bronx.

If any of this interests you, buy the PC port off of Amazon. As far as I can tell it's arcade perfect. New copies are available for 1 penny (shipping is about $4) LAST BRONX on Amazon
If you don't feel it's worthwhile, try it out first (PC version): LAST BRONX on Megauploadwesterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12062275864152460421noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476681607823366429.post-17447891565305535872009-07-04T21:19:00.000-07:002009-07-04T21:23:56.088-07:00Troy Paiva (Night Vision)

lol look @ this mug

If you're familiar with "UrbEx" then you've probably heard this name. The arcade format really fuels excess in all fields, probably due to the need to attract customers with some sort of gimmick. I'm not hating on it, because sometimes it really produces hilarious and entertaining results. Street Fighter, for example is 100% based on stereotypes (e.g. El Fuerte, a Mexican cook/lucha libre whose moves are all named after mexican food; Sodom, a caricature of American "otaku"; Rufus, an obese American). I just want to discuss really quickly one of my favorite stereotypes: African-American Boxer. Of course there's Balrog ("my fight money!!!") and Jax, but their lovechild TJ Combo is undeniably the most ridiculous. He mixes that Apollo Creed style with 1990s hip hop style and let's just leave some of this up to the video...

That's right, he takes out a submachine gun and shoots his enemy to death. Also note the sneakers. this is actually where Bernhard Willhelm stole the idea for his space metal Roys and Liner sneakers from.westerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12062275864152460421noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476681607823366429.post-11815910760044531672009-06-19T00:13:00.000-07:002009-06-19T00:21:38.989-07:00pfd - Phil Frank DesignIf you've ever seen a Saleen from the '90s til today, you've seen a product of pfd. Phil Frank's designs are some of the best in the automotive industry, but I wanted to call attention to some of his less hyped work. If you are a Gran Turismo 4 fan, you'll recognize that he designed the 2022 Nike ONE concept car in the game. If you're a huge GT4 fan, you'll recognize that he actually registered and posted a ton of information about the concept on GTP Forums. Anyways he worked with Nike design team for quite a while, and made what I think are some real hits. My only complaints are that the games aren't all in perfect condition, in fact some will steal yer money, and the cost is much higher than University Pinball. UP is still my favorite place to just play games for the fun of it, while CTF is definitely the best place to hang around and play games with the best on earth. Flipper McCoys really excels at games many arcades don't have: skeeball, pinball, real old school style western light gun shooting gallery, pool, air hockey, and even an FMV game. I think every arcade should have pinball but unfortunately most do not. Go Karts Plus, which is far nearer to my house, doesn't have a single pinball machine or fighting game cabinet. Everything is either a light gun shooter, or hands-on racing game. I think CTF got the right idea when it comes to building video game customers, by having so many competitive games, but could improve by having some pins. A lot of space is wasted there by inoperative or seldom-used machines that hang out in the back past the DDRs.

Anyways this brings me to my point, you should visit Aurcade.com to find an arcade near you. Founded by a Hampton Roads native, so I've got to support it. I've been editing lots of arcade info trying to help the community or whatever whatever and you should too.

On Hackers, the movie is the best of the 90s. The set design was so amazing I still wish Cyberdelia were a real place, so I could go there and hang out. Unfortunately it isn't. And there is no pay phone in Chinatown with a pagoda on top. Just off the strength, I highly recommend anyone who bothers reading this shit site to visit Robert Pepperell's page. He was responsible for some of the Cyberdelia set, the robots to be exact: Robots, Cyborgs, and Androids. While you're at it, check out Dianne Harris's site. She worked on Hackers as well as other films, creating some of the dopest photos and robot shit I've seen.westerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12062275864152460421noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476681607823366429.post-89380559846624086152009-06-11T08:25:00.000-07:002009-06-13T16:01:32.502-07:00Interview with Chris from SifrSelf-explanatory

PoPplWGtTH: typical question, who is Sifr?

Chris/Sifr: Well Sifr was founded by myself and my partner Suraj. We outsource our pattern making/sampling and we have interns execute our flat sketches, other than that almost everything else is done in-house.

Cutting Patterns

PoPplWGtTH: Suraj is the guy behind know it nothing right?
Chris/Sifr: Yeah Suraj is behind the store Know it Nothing.

PoPplWGtTH: Aight, so through your blog, you guys give out a lot of info on the manufacturing process, why is that? Recently I've seen a lot of "behind the scenes" for every industry on things like twitter, Facebook, Youtube, etc. is that a product of Web 2.0 "all sharing all the time" mentality or do u do it as part of advertising like they did in the early 1900s continuing on til today (e.g. "we use triple blah blahs to make our widgets, making them the best yet!").

Chris/Sifr: Well we thought it'd be cool to let people in on certain things that are involved with the process. We figured we really don't have anything to hide, so why hide it. In a sense it can be looked at as advertising and branding but it's the reason for deciding to blog and write about what we're doing. In fact I regret not blogging/recording the process from the very start. There are a lot of memories that have slipped away. It's also pretty fresh and original content from us. What else would we blog about? So many blogs are blogs about other blogs through another filter of another filter haha.

PoPplWGtTH: were cop
Chris/Sifr: KIN [Know It Nothing, Singapore]I've pushed the store into a more niche market, more of a menswear store that targets an older demographic. The upstairs is a temporary office which we hope will turn into the first sifr flagship. We're in discussion with a few very good retail departments in Singapore, we're doing more market research at the moment because during the meeting with one of the buyers whose brought labels like Spring Court [France] and Lad Musician [Japan] to Singaporean retail stores is saying labels that focus on quality and subtle design tend to do a lot worse versus more obvious and generally shittier quality brands.westerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12062275864152460421noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6476681607823366429.post-69576226315541481942009-06-11T08:24:00.001-07:002009-06-11T08:25:49.418-07:00Flipper McCoys at Military Circle is ClosedI don't know how often google maps gets updated, but apparently not often enough. A gun company collaborating with a clothing company? Almost as good as the GUCCE custom SKS I saw on Hypebeast. For reals, though, the ad is terrible. I'm gonna have to scan it to show the world. I know I'm venturing into territory where I could catch a beef but goddamn I searched for MSGR and I found some funny shit.
Check out this guy's Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/msgrkn

Quote so you know what's up:

ど〜も!
